Terms of Service
Last updated: August 23, 2026
freestate.app (“we,” “us”) is a New Hampshire community product: local discovery, events, listings, groups, civic tools, and conversation. These terms govern your use of the websites, apps, and related services we operate.
This is a contract. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The short version
We promise you almost nothing.
Using freestate.app is permission, not a right. We do not guarantee access, uptime, features, visibility, outcomes, membership, or any other privilege. We may change, limit, or end the service — or your access to it — at any time, for any reason or no reason, with or without notice, to the fullest extent the law allows.
If you need a vendor that owes you an SLA, a membership club with guaranteed benefits, or a platform that cannot kick you off, this is not that.
Acceptance
You accept these terms by creating an account, signing in (including with Google or another identity provider), or using the service. If you use the service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you can bind that organization.
We may update these terms. The date above is the current version. Continued use after a change is acceptance of the new terms, except where applicable law requires a different process.
What this is — and is not
freestate.app helps people in and around New Hampshire find each other and do useful things together. We index places, listings, events, and conversation. We are not:
- A government, political party, or legal advisor
- A guarantor of any listing, event, group, host, or other member
- The Freestate movement, or a representative of partner organizations we link to
- A backup, archive, or records-retention service you should rely on
Other people on the service speak for themselves. So do third-party sites we link to.
Accounts and sign-in
You are responsible for your account, your credentials, and what happens under them. Keep them to yourself. Tell us if you think they were compromised.
You may sign in with email or with a third-party identity provider we enable (for example Google). When you use Google Sign-In, Google’s own terms and privacy policy also apply to your use of Google’s services. We receive the basic account details described in our Privacy Policy so we can create and authenticate your freestate.app account. We do not sell that data and do not use it for advertising.
We may refuse, suspend, or delete an account at our discretion. An account is not property. It is not transferable unless we say otherwise.
You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live. The service is not directed at children under 13.
No rights, privileges, or expectations
Without limiting the rest of these terms, you specifically have no contractual right to:
- An account, a particular username, or continued access
- Any feature, ranking, boost, badge, listing slot, event placement, or “membership” benefit
- Discovery, reach, or an audience
- Support, moderation decisions in your favor, or a response on any timeline
- The service remaining free, paid, or available in its current form
- Your content remaining published, searchable, or stored
Paid features, if offered, buy only what the checkout page actually describes at the time of purchase — and even then, only while we choose to offer them. We do not promise refunds, renewals, or that a paid feature will keep working.
If a statute gives you a right we cannot waive, that statute still applies. These terms do not create extra rights on top of that.
Your content
You keep whatever rights you already have in content you submit. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, display, and distribute that content as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service — including backups, moderation, and showing it to other people according to visibility settings.
You represent that you have the right to post what you post, and that it does not violate the law or other people’s rights.
We may remove, hide, refuse, or limit any content at any time. We do not have to explain. Public posts may be seen, copied, or archived by others. Do not post anything you cannot afford to lose.
Acceptable use
You may not use the service to:
- Break the law, or help someone else break it
- Harass, threaten, defraud, or impersonate others
- Attack, scrape, overload, or reverse-engineer the service except as the law allows
- Bypass access controls, rate limits, or account limits
- Upload malware or automated abuse
- Collect personal information from others without a lawful basis
- Use our name, marks, or branding to imply we endorse you
We may report illegal activity and cooperate with lawful process.
Third-party services
The service depends on vendors (hosting, auth, email, payments, and similar). Google, Stripe, and other providers have their own terms. Outages, policy changes, or decisions by those providers are not our breach.
If you connect a Google account, you can revoke access in your Google account settings. Revoking Google access or deleting your Google account may prevent Google Sign-In from working here; it does not automatically delete your freestate.app account or content. Use our data-rights process or email support@freestate.app if you want this account removed.
Payments
If you pay for something, the payment processor handles card details. Taxes, chargebacks, and processor rules are between you and them except where the law puts them on us. We may cancel a purchase, revoke a paid benefit, or change prices going forward. Past payment does not buy future access.
Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, accurate, or error-free, that content will be preserved, or that any person, listing, event, or civic action you find here is safe, lawful, or worthwhile. You use it at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FREESTATE AND ITS OPERATORS, CONTRACTORS, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR ACCESS, WHETHER OR NOT WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF TEN U.S. DOLLARS (US $10) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.
Some places do not allow these limits. In those places, our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law allows.
Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) that arise from your content, your use of the service, or your violation of these terms, to the extent the law allows.
Termination
You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or end the service or your access at any time. Sections that should survive — including licenses already exercised, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, and governing law — survive.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Hampshire, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Exclusive venue for disputes that a court must hear is the state or federal courts sitting in New Hampshire, except where applicable law requires otherwise. We both waive jury trial and class actions to the fullest extent the law allows.
Privacy
How we handle personal information — including Google Sign-In data — is described in the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If these terms and the privacy policy conflict on a privacy topic, the privacy policy controls for that topic.
